Reflecting on Presentations - How can I do that better?

  We have all heard the dreaded words “This will need to be presented in front of the class with a accompanied slide show and written script   to hand in….marks will be reduce if the work is not orally presented” . The basic PowerPoint and speech assessment always ill fitting ,seemingly pointless in relation to criteria or academic/ individual development, how am I supposed to talk about that for 10 minutes?? How does it promote higher order of thinking if students are just regurgitating what they heard in class? Reflecting on Digital Media - How could you apply it?

  Digital media is everywhere, think about it on your phone you can access a range of tools to create videos, photos and audio files, if you do not have access then similar application can be found on the computer. Interacting with these types of media may even be happening without you being aware . Driving around there is a number of digital billboards, the audio play from your stereo or even the podcast you passively listen to as you work out. Digital media is everywhere as it is any medium of digitalized information which is broad casted through a speaker or screen. How do you utilise this in your classroom? Well digital media can be used in a range of ways in the classroom from being embedded in learning activities to being used during explicit teaching. Teachers can use videos, 3D diagrams and photos to stimulate interest and further facilitate knowledge development. Pedagogical Principles - What is my experience?

  Pedagogical Principles Even in high school I talked and told others about concepts or theories I was learning or trying to wrap my head around therefore when i first began my Secondary Education Bachelor i used the same approach. In the begin having an understanding of all these new words was very difficult, when i came across pedagogies in my first term I was at a lost for thought to what it could even mean. Since then i have come to learn it as the art of teaching and when using the word around others who ask me to explain I tell them in layman terms it means techniques to teach for example digital pedagogies = digital ways to teach or learn. During my digital pedagogies unit I have learnt the eight pedagogical principles. Reflecting on web spaces - What are the pedagogical advantages?

  This week I have discovered a range of information about digital pedagogies and the technical aspect of different web spaces.   Websites offer an infinite number of creative ways to share not only text but video audio, animations, images, polls and interactive forms; this creating a learning environment for learners to share and combine. In addition, wikis allow collaborative work to be accomplished which from a pedagogical perspective create opportunity for peer learning. This also creates a power shift for students to learn and teach one another without the teachers being the soul source of information but simply a facilitator. Personally, I chose to deep dive into the world of blogging, which opened a multiverse of worlds and perspectives. Being very digitally illiterate at the beginning of this digital journey I am still finding new editing, blogging and digital tools; so far I have created my own blog using blogger. SAMR- What does it mean for me?

  What is SAMR? SAMR stands for: 1. Substitution  2. Augmentation 3. Modification  4. Redefinition  This model was created by Ruben Puentedura and has been a conceptual tool in integrating technologies in schools since being published in 2010. Since then the model has been constantly aligned with Blooms taxonomy to enhance teachers level of understanding and allow higher orders of thinking to be targeted in the class room. Substitution has been aligned with the remembering and understanding; Followed by Augmentation aligning with understanding and applying. These first two levels are known as the enhancing levels as they only enhance learning. Challenging Beliefs- Who am I as a contemporary teacher?

What is the importance of digital pedagogies in the classroom to me? Student interest as stated by Judy Wills in her video 'The science of learning' ,is a large key concept in the ability to purposefully retain information. If a student has a negative emotion towards the subject or pedagogy being used the amygdala   reacts engaging the limbic system and not allowing the information to be obtained in a retrievable part of the brain. Therefore if the correct pedagogies and learning tools are used in order to engage students in a positive way the likely hood of students having better outcomes increases. Personally, I have always struggled to feel positively towards technology and its use in the class room with access being a problem. When they teacher said we must use computers for an assessment or group activity i would begin to have a range of negative feelings, as I knew that I would not have access to one and therefore little to no knowledge or technical skills.
